In 1976, Giovanni Losani founded Losani Homes with a simple but powerful vision: to give families the same pride he felt when purchasing his first home in Canada.

Born in the mountains of Abruzzo, Italy, Giovanni grew up in a poor family where children were expected to work from a young age to help make ends meet. That early hardship instilled in him a relentless work ethic and determination to build a better future.

When he immigrated to Canada in 1960, Giovanni, like many Italian newcomers of the time, he found employment at Stelco in Hamilton. The work was grueling, but it provided stability and marked the beginning of his new life in Canada.

The entrepreneurial spirit burned brightly in Giovanni, and eventually he craved more for his family, than Stelco was able to provide. When Giovanni turned his attention to homebuilding and development, he had zero formal training and learned much of his craft in real time. With the guidance of building inspectors, who often coached him on the job, he mastered construction trade by trade. The stakes could not have been higher, a single mistake could have meant the end of his dream, but Giovanni’s determination and thirst for knowledge carried him through.

Nothing brought him greater joy than being on the job site, building homes that would one day shelter families like his own. Over nearly five decades, his vision has grown into one of Ontario’s most respected builders.

Giovanni’s legacy lives on not only in the thousands of homes Losani has built, but also in the culture of integrity, care, and family values that continues to define the company today.
