Giving Back: A Promise Kept

The story of Losani Homes has always been rooted in family, community, and gratitude. In the late 1970s, when Giovanni and Maria Losani were raising their young family in Hamilton, money was scarce, and winters were harsh. One Sunday after mass, Giovanni approached the priest at St. Anthony’s Church and explained that his family would not be returning until the spring, he simply could not afford winter coats for his children. The priest urged him to come back the following week. When Giovanni did, he was presented with three boxes filled with winter wear to keep his children warm and allow the family to continue attending mass. Giovanni shared the news with his wife and children as if it were Christmas morning. That act of generosity left an indelible mark on him. Fifty years later, the Losani family still supports the same church that supported them when they had nothing.
From those humble beginnings grew a tradition of giving back. Before the Losani Family Foundation was ever formalized, Giovanni instilled in his children the belief that if you are able to help others, it is your duty to do so, and that true success is not measured in money, but in the lives you touch along the way. This spirit of generosity shaped decades of community initiatives. The Annual Turkey Drive has raised millions of dollars to ensure families in need can celebrate the holidays. The Losani family has also raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for City Kidz, supported the YWCA, and funded breakfast programs in multiple school boards, areas close to their hearts, as they themselves experienced hardship in those very ways during their early years in Canada.

Together,
we can build stronger, kinder communities

Legacy in Motion:

Extraordinary Expeditions, Unmatched Impact

Building on this legacy, Fred Losani has taken the family’s commitment to new heights. Through extraordinary fundraising expeditions, he trekked 110 km to the North Pole, raising $800,000; repeated the challenge in the South Pole, raising more than $600,000; and hiked the entirety of the Bruce Trail 882 km, raising nearly $1 million. The funds raised through these expeditions were distributed among many charitable partners, supporting countless children and families in need.

His leadership in both philanthropy and environmental stewardship earned him the Calypso Orchid Environmental Award, the Bruce Trail’s highest honour, as well as the Spirit Award for charitable giving from the North American Home Builders Association. The continents’ highest honour.

Philanthropy Without Borders

The Losani Family's Global Commitment to Care

To expand their impact globally, the family formally established the Losani Family Foundation, dedicated specifically to international charitable efforts. Partnering with Free the Children and later WE, the Foundation has funded classrooms in Kenya, supported community initiatives in India, and helped construct a hospital in the Ecuadorian Amazon that now serves more than 14,000 villagers who once lacked access to medical care and clean water. In each of these initiatives, members of the Losani family were present with boots on the ground, working side by side with local communities to build schools, carry supplies, and even help raise walls.

Through both local and international initiatives, the Losani family has raised and contributed millions of dollars, continuing Giovanni’s legacy of gratitude, compassion, and service for generations to follow.
